Our Program

"Nature play invigorates the sense, nourishes wellbeing and stimulates the imagination."

Our program provides children with the opportunity to explore and learn from the gift’s nature has to offer. We believe children receive many benefits through connecting with nature – physical and mental health and in improving development and encouraging imaginative play.

There are also potential benefits to the environment, as a generation connected to nature is more likely to value and protect it.

Poppins Bush School

We believe that every child is wonderfully unique and has the right to feel safe, respected and celebrated in nurturing environments. We are dedicated to fostering our children’s diverse needs by focusing on the development of the ‘whole child’ – physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

We believe learning is organic and that true holistic developmental experiences occur when experiences are child-led and educators support and scaffold children’s learning, this encourages discovery with community awareness and fosters a strong sense of self.

Poppins Bush School

Play is highly valued as the most fundamental form of learning. At Poppins Bush school we encourage curiosity and questioning. Our Philosophy is not only inspired by nature but also by the schools in the town of Reggio Emilia in Italy.

We acknowledge the environment as the 'third teacher' and therefore our flexible learning spaces allow opportunities for self-exploration and for children to make connections to their world.

Children build on problem solving skills, self-exploration, decision making, cause and effect, creativity, imaginative thinking, communication, collaboration, social skills, resilience, co-operation and fostering a sense of belonging.

Nursery

Our qualified and nurturing Nursery Educators are passionate about providing a safe and warm environment for our children. The first two years of a child’s life is a period of rapid growth and development.

We focus on the individual needs and interests of each child and sensitively support each child’s social and emotional development by building and engaging in meaningful relationships.

We encourage open communication between our staff and families as we believe trusted relationships are paramount for the care, wellbeing and development of the child. Our Educators incorporate lots of tactile and sensory activities, arts and crafts, role play and story time in their programming.

Our program focuses on outdoor play, allowing children to explore their natural environment with enthusiasm and a sense of wonder. We foster the children’s natural dispositions for exploration and investigation through the use of natural and man-made loose parts materials within our learning spaces.

We encourage independence and the use of self-help, allow the children to explore and develop their skills in a safe, secure and supportive environment.

We also provide nutritious meals (morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, Late snack) nappies, bibs, wipes, sunscreen and a hat

Junior Preschool

Our Junior Preschool Educators nurture and support each child’s social and emotional development and aim to nurture resilience in all children.

Other important skills we aim to develop –Self-help skills, Independent toileting, Speech and language development, Turn taking and Sharing.

Our Educators focus on an emergent curriculum; providing engaging activities that reflect children’s ever-changing interests and passion at a certain point in time. We believe children thrive and learn best when their interests are captured and therefore learning occurs organically. We provide children with mattresses at rest time and ask families to bring bedding of their choosing. By doing so we enable the children to take responsibility of their belongings and foster the self- help skills.

Preschool & Prep

Our Preschool Educators are dedicated to fostering our children’s diverse needs by focusing on the development of the ‘whole child’ – physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.  We aim to nurture resilience in all children, focussing on social and emotional development and self-regulation.

We believe learning is organic and true holistic development is built from child-led and supported learning and discovery, community awareness and a strong sense of self.  We focus on creating an educational program that guides children in developing independence, autonomy and critical thinking skills. Our children are encouraged through investigation and exportation to work at their own pace to hone their gross motor and fine skills along with the ability to enhance the understanding of literacy and numeracy skills. Growth in creativity, social skills and communication is also achieved during group times and team work allowing the children to learn how to follow rules and instructions, these are critical skills required for exceeding in their schooling years.
