September 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to the September edition of our monthly newsletter! As the days begin to warm and spring peeks around the corner, we’re looking forward to another joyful and adventure-filled month here at Bush School. August was a whirlwind of excitement and creativity! Our Book Week celebrations were a standout moment, with children arriving in a dazzling array of costumes—from classic storybook characters to imaginative originals. It was heartwarming to see the joy and pride on their faces as they shared their favourite tales and joined in the festivities. Thank you to all the families who helped bring the magic to life! A special shout-out to Miss Mary and her incredible team, who have installed beautiful new message sticks throughout the Centre. These vibrant additions are not only visually stunning but also rich in cultural significance. We encourage everyone to take a walk around the Centre and explore these meaningful pieces—each one tells a story worth discovering.

With the Warmer Months ahead

As part of our educational program, we run fire, bush fire, lockdown and snake drills regularly throughout the year. This month we will befocusing on our snake drills. Snakes are most prevalent during Spring or Summerbut could be encountered at any time of the year- especially on sunny days.

Unprovoked, snakes rarely attack humans and are generally shy, timid animals that will avoid conflict if given the opportunity.  Snakes are protected under the NatureConservation Act 1992 and it is an offence to kill or injure them. The greatestrisk of snake bite from venomous snakes is from people trying to kill or handlethem.

Our Service is committed to providing a safe and healthyenvironment for children and staff whilst being respectful of wildlife in andaround our environment. We aim to minimise the potential risk of injury from asnake bite by educating children and staff about the risks associated withsnakes.

If you happen to come across an injury or distressed native Australiananimal, you can call Wires on 1300 094 737 or Northern Tablelands WildlifeCarers on 1800 008 290 to report the injured or distressed animal.
