August Newsletter 2025

Welcome to the August Edition of our Monthly Newsletter! July was brimming with joy and meaningful connections here at Poppins Bush School. We began the month with vibrant NAIDOC Week celebrations (July 1st–11th), welcoming special guests including the Clontarf boys and Oxley High students. Their heartfelt performance truly brought the spirit of the occasion to life for our children. During the week, one of our cherished Poppins community members led a beautiful painting session with our Prep children. The finished artwork is simply stunning—if you haven’t had the chance to admire it, we’d love for you to take a look. Meanwhile, our Junior Preschool children were swept up in the wonder of a Dreamtime story and drawing activity, also hosted by a member of our community. Mid-month brought the cozy magic of Pyjama Week (July 14th–18th), filled with creativity, laughter, and comfort, but we also raised $44.90. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated. A group of our Junior Prep children enjoyed a fascinating excursion to the Tamworth Astronomy & Science Centre, sparking curiosity and awe. Looking Ahead to August From August 16th to 23rd, we’ll be celebrating Book Week—one of our favourite times of year! We can’t wait to see all the imaginative characters your children bring to life through their costumes. Plus, we’ve got more exciting community excursions in the works for the children to get out and about in the community—stay tuned for updates!

Moo-ving Moments: Caring for Our Visiting Poddy Calves

For two utterly delightful weeks, three visiting calves trotted into our lives—and straight into our hearts. From the moment their wobbly legs touched the ground, these little charmers became the talk of the town (or at least the playground!).

Our children quickly stepped into their new roles as official calf caretakers. Armed with buckets of milk and endless enthusiasm, they eagerly took part in feeding and bonding with their bovine buddies. Giggles echoed all around as the calves playfully nuzzled tiny fingers in search of snacks and snuggles. Whether they were chasing each other in the yard or flopping down for a nap in the sun, these baby cows created a whole moo-d of magic and connection.

But this experience was more than just adorable—it was a rich opportunity for learning. Through hands-on care, the children developed empathy, responsibility, and confidence. They strengthened their fine and gross motor skills, learned new vocabulary, and engaged in meaningful conversations about animal needs and rural life.

Though our calf crew has now moo-ved on, the memories—and muddy boots—remain. Here's to sweet snouts, silly moments, and the kind of laughter and learning that lingers long after the last tail wiggle.
